PREVAILING PRAYER
THE SOLUTION TO HUMAN PROBLEMS

Picture
“And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.  And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.” 1 Chronicles 4:9, 10.

Man is born into the world of competition and not complementary, the world of war and battles for survival, challenges to progress, sickness and depression for the daily needs as well as many problems presented by the devil who has lost his prestigious position in heaven.  Revelations 12: 9 – 12.  These and many more other devilish works of the devil and his cohorts have taken away the lives of many people before their time or made many people who knew not what to do to become redundant in life and could not fulfill their purpose as human being.
Since the devil is cast out of heaven to the earth, man has to take personal decision to live victoriously over the power of the devil or be defeated by the power of darkness.

Those who will triumph have to take the path way of prayer to be able to achieve their God-given purpose in life.   In our text from the Book of 1 Chronicles 4: 9 and 10, the poor, rejected and miserable Jabez who was born out of sorrow by his mother, realized his woe and predicaments parading his daily life and prayed the prevailing prayers that made him to become honourable among his brethren and even the point of reference in our contemporary day.

What is prayer?
Prayer is the medium of communication with God.  It is a way of presenting our petition to God and it is usually followed by answer to all desires in prayer. Sometimes the answer to prayer can be positive, negative or neither of the two.  All these can be spiritually understood by them that worship God in truth and in Spirit.

PREVAILING PRAYERS
“And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;” Luke 6: 12 and 13.

Jesus Christ the example of our Christian faith sought for divine direction in prayer a night that preceded the day He would choose the Apostles among the many Disciples that followed Him.  The Bible says that He prayed all night.  This is a prayer of sacrifice that led to the Apostles who made the vision of Christ to remain till today.  It was settled in the “night of prevailing prayer”.  Prayer is highly important in all we do. Despite the prayer of Jesus Christ, we still found a son of perdition among the Prayer sought out Apostles of Christ.  Judas was among the twelve that were chosen.

In Genesis 32:22 – 31 Jacob wrestled with the Angel of God all night and he prevailed); Isaiah 62: 6,7 (God expects us to watch in prayer till we are established, and till God makes us a praise in the earth.) In the same vein, the church who did not pray when James the brother of John was arrested and beheaded with sword by Herod entered into prayer when Peter was arrested and tarried in prayer till Peter was let loosed by the hand of the Angels of God who open the prison gates without key (Acts 12:5, 12); Matthew 26: 39 – 42; James 5:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:17, we need to Pray Until Something Happen (PUSH).

Prevailing prayer is a prayer of determination to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant according to God´s purpose for our lives.  Praying a prevailing prayer is an act of having faith in God who can do all things.  Prevailing prayer is praying when all others are tired and wearied that there is no more help from anywhere and one is having hope against hopelessness.  Many of the Heroes in the Bible have gone through prevailing prayers; it is now a lesson for this contemporary Christians to believe in God with holiness and righteousness so as to prevail in our circumstances of life.  Christ who has gone before us will take us through for breakthrough in Jesus name.  We need to be fervent and consistent in our prayer.  Be assured that whatever you ask in the name of Jesus Christ will be done.

STEPS TO ANSWERABLE PRAYERS
  1. Make use of the name of Jesus Christ.  Philippians 2: 9 – 11
  2. Have faith in God at all times even in difficult situations.  Acts 16: 25 – 40
  3. Make a vow as a catalyst to your requests in prayer. Judges 11: 29 – 31, 1 Samuel 1: 11, Genesis 28:20 -22; 31:13
  4. Holiness, a sanctified life is road to your assets in God. Psalm 24:3,4; Hebrews 12:14
  5. Living a peaceful life with people.
  6. Be far from sin Psalm 97: 10

The devil's final strategy in deceiving believers is to make them doubt the faithfulness of God in answering prayer. Satan would have us believe God has shut His ears to our cry and left us to work things out for ourselves. Do not believe the lies of the devil, God still answers prayer.  Be close to God in your closet, in the church and be effective in the places of prayer.  The hands that pray receive; so also the family that prays together, stays together. Prayer is the strength of believers.  Do it according to the will of God.  It is your time to give testimonies.
